Phuket is famous for its crystal blue water and beautiful beaches. There are around 40 beaches to choose. Some beaches have interesting name like Banana Beach, Friendship Beach and Freedom Beach. Those are not Thai language names for these beaches.
I have visited about 7 beaches and here is the list.
Surin Beach
Sand: White and soft
Crowed : Less
Water Activities : Kayang, surfing, waterboat, banana boat, skykiting
Surin is one of the beautiful white sand beaches in Phuket. We went there in the early morning so we had the beach all to ourselves. There are no restaurants in front of the beach, only a couple of food stalls. I haven’t tried the food there, but please comment if you do.
Kata Beach
Sand: White and soft
Crowed : Medium
Activities : Surfing, jet ski, parasailing, massage
My second favorite beach is Kata, so we stayed near Kata beach. Besides beautiful water and palm trees, you can take a photo with a cutie black pig that hangs out in kata beach. Just walk to the end of the beach as you face the ocean. That is where the pig hangs out.
Kata Noi
Sand: White and soft
Crowed : Medium
Activities : Snorkelling, surfing, sunbathing
Kata Noi is smaller than Kata beach, but it has nice (expensive) restaurants, plus, some people (women) even go topless. I think because of the smaller crowds.
Karon beach
Sand: normal and soft
Crowed : Medium
Activities : Parasailing, jet ski, massage
The first impression for me was all the rubbish around the beach. It might just be that there are no hotels on the beach there paying to have the trash removed every morning, but it turned me off.
Kamala beach
Sand: rough
Crowed : High
Activities : Parasailing, banana ride, jet ski, surfing
This is more for hippies, surfers, and party animals. When we were there, loud speakers were playing music, and young people were enjoying themselves. It is not as crazy as Patong beach. Kamala seems to be younger more local people.
Patong beach
Sand: Normal
Crowed : High
Activities : Parasailing, jet ski, massage
Typical tourist beach, full of crowd and full of umbrellas and chairs. A lot of yelling there, especially children. Lol
Hat Nai Harn
Sand: Normal
Crowed : Less
Activities : Surfing, sunbathing
This beach is on the far south end of the Phuket. This is one of the best beaches sunsets. Nearby, Promthep cape is the most famous for sunsets. You can also see the Windmill View Point from Hat Nai Harn beach.
Freedom beach
Sand: White and soft
Crowed : Less
Activities : Snorkeling, Sunbath
Freedom beach requires you to walk down a steep path, or you can take a boat from Patong for about 1000 Baht (both ways), but pay upon return.
If you walk and follow the google map, they will charge you 200 Baht at the gate. But, look for another way near the gate. You walk along the forest and you will see a sign for free entry. Because of the difficult trail, there are less crowds and more privacy.
I never made it there, so please share below if you think it is awesome (or not) at freedom beach!
