Hi, This is Qiang Hui from Hobo Ventures.

‘Hobo’ in a Chinese dialect called Hokkien, is an informal way of saying, ‘How are you?’ In English, Hobo means, ‘A free man who is no longer trapped in the society of capitalism and time’, by Urban Dictionary.

That is how Hobo Ventures was born.

I have been a runway model in Malaysia since 2008. I was the Stylo Model of the year in 2012. Until a few months ago, I also had a fulltime job as I love to keep myself busy. Before quitting my job a few months ago, I was only to travel a few times a year, which included modelling jobs in foreign countries such as China, Korea, Indonesia, and Australia. #QiangHui

One night in a blue moon, I met Dan of VagabondBuddha, my life partner in crime. He has lived a life that most people only dream of. He has been a digital nomad for 10 years. He has travelled to more than 60 countries.  I always listen to his adventures. Since we met in 2016, we have travelled together to Bali, Langkawi, Hanoi, and Shanghai. I watched him work while we travel, and it impressed me how he could work online and travel.

After watching him for a year and a half, I decided to quit my job and go with him. So, I sold my car and joined Dan, and now we explore the planet Earth. Some of my friends were not happy because they didn’t see the digital nomad life as a real life.

Basically, Asians believe you need to have a job, a place to live and be near family. They want me to live a normal life. A normal life does not suit me because I don’t like people controlling my life. For example, my employer did not approve my requests for holidays. Gosh! The Asian lifestyle was so limiting. After a few months of travelling, my friends see that I am happier than I was before. Now they have started to support me as I live my dreams. A few supported me from the first day I decided to quit my job and travel.

I guess you may ask, ‘What about your parents? You are from an Asian family!’ My family is open-minded and they are happy with what I decided to do with my life. So long as I am happy, they are happy.

Hobo Ventures will tell stories about how to save money while you travel the world. We will talk about tips to find cheap flights, cheap hotels, and how to work or make money online and live the lifestyle of a digital nomad. I hope it will help you live your travel dreams too.

Thanks for reading this post. All the best of life for you, Qiang Hui.
